It is also worth asking about the room itself. A room beside a bar or entertainment area can feel different from one farther away on the same property. Neither a lively evening nor an early night is the wrong preference; the mistake is expecting one while booking the other.
A useful question: “Can you describe the walk from this room to the beach and to somewhere for dinner?” That answer often tells you more than a general promise of a convenient location.
The West End: choose the coastline, then check access
Negril’s West End offers a rocky coastal setting. The tourist board’s Negril itinerary describes the contrast between the beach and the West End’s cliffs. It is a different way to enjoy the sea, rather than an interchangeable version of Seven Mile Beach.
When comparing properties, separate the view from the way you will use the water. Ask whether swimming access involves steps, ladders or another entry, whether there is a pool, and what happens when sea conditions make ocean access unsuitable. If easy entry matters to you, request current photographs of the route to the water.
The same approach helps with moving around the property. Check the route between your room, the restaurant and any terrace you expect to use. “Oceanfront” describes a position; it does not tell you how many steps are involved.
A useful question: “What does getting into and out of the water involve at your property?” Ask that before letting a beautiful sea-view photograph make the decision for you.
Little Bay: choose a base you will enjoy spending time in
Little Bay suits a different planning rhythm: breakfast where you are staying, time by the coast, and selected outings rather than a plan to move between Negril venues throughout every day. It makes sense to give the accommodation’s setting and dining arrangements extra attention.

If you want several evenings out in Negril, include the journeys in your decision. Arrange the return as well as the outward trip, and ask for a quote to the specific venue. “Near Negril” is not a substitute for the address or a transport plan.
A useful question: “If we spend most of tomorrow here, do the setting, meals and available activities match the day we want?” If the answer is yes, a quieter base can be a pleasure rather than a compromise.
Plan your journeys before filling the itinerary
The Jamaica Tourist Board lists Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay as a convenient arrival point for Negril. Give your driver the full accommodation address: a quote for one Negril hotel may not cover another property farther along the coast.
For any transfer, confirm the destination, number of travellers, luggage, stops, whether the price covers one or both directions, and the plan if your flight is delayed. Ask the accommodation or driver for a current journey estimate for your exact route. Leave your arrival evening flexible instead of attaching a prepaid activity to a hoped-for arrival time.
